Is the War on Terror an old or new phenomenon in countries such as Pakistan, or has the term evolved only as a consequence of 9/11? A Writer and a Philanthropist have lived in Pakistan for several years when 9/11 happens, and Storyteller Madam Fifi provides an out of the box account of the opposition to the war on Afghanistan from inside Pakistan. Madam Fifi struggles to separate the propaganda from the facts. Can the Ruler of the World provide credible explanations for the wars his country wages and justify not heeding the voices of resistance? This War on Terror novel was inspired by the duality – of simplicity and complexity – surrounding the Allied bombardment of Afghanistan post 9/11. Rather than focusing on the actions of that war, the story is about the reactions. Among the reactions: ‘Death to America’. A build-up to this adage is not required. The character of Storyteller Madam Fifi – who introduces the fiction of creation and destruction – smacks of Land of Opportunity-bashing. But, she believes she only has the visible events on the ground to go by to construct her reasoning.
